Language Center

【Soul】
In addition to conveying professional knowledge, university education needs to cultivate in students the ability to understand and communicate in the diverse cultural environment under this globalized era that has brought a fluidity and flattening of the world. These abilities include a self-learning ability for facing future situations, independent critical thinking ability, interpersonal interactive communication ability, and a mobility that spans countries and cultures. What connects all of these abilities is the knowledge and ability to apply English well to communicate across cultures. In light of this, the current focus of English teaching within higher education is no longer to only raise students’ abilities to listen, speak, read, and write; it aims to cultivate an ability to communicate across cultures and raise the awareness of being a “world citizen”. The teaching philosophy and objective at the TMU Language Center is to train students to acquire three major mindsets and five major skillsets, thus cultivating students into becoming world citizens with a global view and mobility.

【Vision】
With the direction to “continuously cultivate deep fundamental, professional, and cultural English abilities” and “connect general education, professional, and international collaboration platforms”, we plan courses for students from their admission to graduation to cultivate global views and mobility after graduation. We also establish examination and guidance systems to train students to respond to the global job market with cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills, thus becoming interdisciplinary medical professional talents that are internationally competitive.
